Bungee, Canoning and Rafting

Bungee, Canoning and Rafting
Nepal’s first bungee jumping site is situated 160m over the wild Bhote Koshi River, and located close to the Nepal-Tibet border takes 3 hours drive from Kathmandu. As of now, there is only one agency offering this sport. The jump, at 160m, was designed by one of New Zealand’s leading bungee consultants, and is operated by some of the most experienced jump masters in the business. A 4x safety factor, the bridge has a loading factor of 41500kg or 4.5 tones. And those are Swiss measurements.

Bungy Jumping:
The early morning four-hour ride from Kathmandu to the Last Resort, is bumpy and full of hairpin bends. From the edge of the Bhote Koshi gorge the passengers see the reality of what they are about to do: freefall 160m from the bungee bridge.

There are two jump options offered at Last Resort. One is the regular ‘head first’ bungee jump which is done on rubber rope and provides about 2 to 2.5 seconds of free fall. The second is called swing, which is ‘legs first’ and secures about six seconds of free fall at a speed about 150km per hour, and you end up swinging like a pendulum.

Bhote Koshi Day Raft:

The Bhote Koshi River is a very steep and very continuous mountain stream; a unique combination of exceptionally fun and challenging rapids without it ever getting past the point of recreation. The thundering of the next rapid is never far downstream and only occasional pools of calm give a chance to reflect on the awesome beauty surrounding the river. Emerald green fields are terraced high above the river on precipitous slopes; curious villagers lining suspension bridges are amazed as we plunge through cascading waves and chutes of foam.

Rafting on the Bhote Koshi is a full body experience, with much more involved than simply paddling forward and backward. One of the most common paddle commands on the Bhote Koshi is “hold on”. During low flows the Bhote Koshi is a classic run on a steep mountain river. When the water starts coming up the Bhote Koshi becomes a solid class 4+ river, requiring a serious commitment from all team members. Family raft trips and regular kayak clinics are available on the lower river sections and there is no better place to experience the thrill and gratification of learning to kayak in the Himalayas.
